Why watch this film?
The first 'Saw' came to revolutionize the horror genre. It was a low budget movie, with lots of blood and an intriguing premise, which won over the audience and became an eight (yes, eight) production franchise. As expected, the story got lost, but the third volume still has positive points. In 'Saw III', director Darren Lynn Bousman creates a good hook for the saga of the sadistic Jigsaw to continue. And of course: get ready for strong scenes of torture, amputations and lots of tension.

Maggie Q ('Designated Survivor') and Luke Hemsworth ('Westworld') star in this suspense from 'Saw II' director Darren Lynn Bousman. 'Death of Me' follows a vacationing couple who one day wake up with no memory of what happened - and the reality they face next is a big nightmare. Q and Hemsworth are both great in their roles, especially the actress, who shows here that she has great potential to become a scream queen. Films of this genre tend to fall into the same pattern, but this one stands out. The narrative focuses on the occult and, although simple, fulfills its purpose well.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw
After seven movies, which were getting worse in quality as the franchise came to an end, 'Saw' decided to reinvent itself. In 2017, the movie series was reborn with 'Saw: Jigsaw', an attempt to give the story new strength and look -- but, of course, keeping the exaggerated violence, games and the return of memorable characters and icons, such as the Puppet Billy. Now, this new venture into the 'Saw' universe gets a second film with 'Spiral: From the Book of Saw'. Starring Chris Rock, and with Samuel L. Jackson in the cast, the feature film follows a series of crimes committed that resemble what Jigsaw used to do -- sadistic games and, usually, with strong moral issues involved. The feature film has slips that spoil much of the experience, such as the obvious villain, Rock's difficulty in some scenes and a very strange ending. However, even so, it is still possible to have fun with all the madness of the feature film, which seems to play up, once again, the logic of the 'Saw' story.

The Nightman
The Nightman a dramatic thriller that explores the dangerous boundary between love and darkness. The story follows a young pregnant woman who begins to question the perfection of her boyfriend upon discovering his possible involvement in mysterious disappearances and murders, linked to his sleepwalking behavior. With praised performances and precise direction, the film delves into complex themes of relationships and personal dilemmas, keeping the audience engaged in its dark suspense.
Abigail
Abigail demonstrates why we should keep an eye on the director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, especially when they have original material at their disposal (they also directed Scream 5 and 6, with mixed results). Abigail is a film that manages to balance the terror and tragedy of its characters with the absurdity of its premise, thanks to a clever script that plays with the conventions of vampire literature, careful direction, and a phenomenal cast (led by Mexican actress Melissa Barrera and Dan Stevens) that fully utilizes their roles. The plot follows a group of kidnappers tasked with a delicate job: to kidnap a millionaire's daughter for ransom. However, it all turns out to be a trap: beneath the guise of a 12-year-old girl, the victim is actually an ancient vampire who likes to play with her food. Like Ready or Not in its time, this film is self-aware, pushing its story and violence to the most absurd and fun limits without falling into self-parody. It won’t change the history of horror cinema, but it’s an excellent (and even stylish for a film of its genre, I dare say) choice for a fun time at the movies with friends.
