Why watch this film?

In one of the most emotional performances by Patrick Stewart (Professor Xavier from 'X-Men'), the feature film 'Coda' follows the journey of a musician coming back to active duty to talk about an urgent and necessary issue: mental health. From the protagonist's relationship with a journalist, this debut film by Claude Lalonde delicately and carefully addresses this subject, without neglecting to develop important aspects for a drama of this kind. There are development problems, but that doesn't take away the shine of Stewart's performance, the good dialogues he has with the reporter, and especially the emotional musical scenes - reminiscent of some passages from the acclaimed film 'The Last Concert', with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Christopher Walken. It is a movie to feel, to listen to, and above all, to reflect on while the credits roll.
