Trailer

Why watch this film?

This is a movie written and directed by Owen Egerton ("Festival of Blood"), backed by Blumhouse Productions, the production house behind contemporary horror hits like "Get Out," "Insidious," "The Purge," and "Happy Death Day." "Mercy Black's Possession" draws inspiration from popular folklore spirits like "Bloody Mary," "La Llorona," "Veronica," and "The Queen of Swords," as well as real-life events like the Mary Bell case and the Slender Man case—both about murders as ritual sacrifices (Egerton wrote the script while researching the latter case). Starring Daniella Pineda ("Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom") and Elle LaMont ("Alita: Battle Angel"), the movie tells a story about taking responsibility for past mistakes, and while it may not be the scariest entry in the genre, it is above average enough to make for an engaging supernatural horror offering.
