Why watch this film?

Indianara Siqueira is the protagonist of this movie, which bears her name. The activist led a group of transgender women to fight for survival amidst intolerance. The documentary follows the trajectory of this woman who became an icon of the trans movement. Indianara was one of the founders of Casa Nem, a shelter for LGBT people in Rio de Janeiro. In 2019, the production was the only Brazilian one in the official selection of the ACID (Association du Cinéma Indépendant pour sa Diffusion) show at the Cannes Festival. 'Indianara' competed for the Queer Palm, which honors LGBT films that participate in the festival. The documentary is important to understand the struggle of transgender people in the midst of a prejudiced society and is also moving for the same reason.
