Why watch this film?

Perhaps the only thing more tragic than watching a hero or idol fall, is witnessing someone fail just before they become one. Mexican Carlos Torre was a great promise of international chess during the 20th century (the Grand Master title was awarded to him in 1977, one year before his death), who came to be considered among the 10 best in the world, admired for his enormous analytical capacity, and even left behind a fundamental book for the Soviet school of chess, in addition to a move with his name (the Torre Attack). However, his career was tragically cut short when it had just begun to take off. 'Torre X Torre' is a documentary co-directed by Roberto Gara (producer of 'La libertad del diablo') and Juan Obregón (actor in 'Sin ton ni Sonia' and 'La 4a compañía'), which dives into the enigma of Torre for the chess community. Who was he, what happened to him, what potential did he have and what was his legacy? The documentary collects testimonies from 1995 to 2017 from historians, Grand Masters of chess, biographers, friends and family of the mysterious Mexican chess player.
