Technoboss

An aging man's musical dreams clash with reality at work and a new love interest.

Trailer

Why watch this film?

Usually, musical films are grand, colorful, and splendid. But 'Technoboss', a provocative Portuguese musical by João Nicolau (of 'A Espada e a Rosa'), goes in the opposite direction. Instead of a big love story like in 'Chicago' or 'La La Land', 'Technoboss' gifts the viewer with a man who starts to feel his age. At his job, he sees his functions being replaced by robots and younger employees. And the music? Nothing of the grandeur of 'Les Miserables', for example. Here, everything is simple, without big arrangements, and with the flaws and weaknesses of the protagonist's voice being exposed with each chord. It's almost an anti-musical film, which likes to play with possibilities, nuances, and, mainly, take the viewer on a provocative journey, where we question the direction of society as a whole.
