Why watch this film?
Marie Curie, born Marie Skłodowska, was one of the greatest scientific minds in history - and one of the most underrated in her time, for being a woman. Her legacy transformed science and medicine forever, and led her to win the Nobel not once, but twice, making her the first person (and only woman) to accomplish such a feat, as well as the only one to do it in two different fields. 'Radioactive' is a biographical drama based on the book 'Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie: A Tale of Love and Fallout' by Lauren Redniss, adapted by screenwriter Jack Thorne ('Extraordinary'). Directed by Marjane Satrapi ('Persepolis'), the film follows a surreal logic that translates into visually imaginative and impressive sequences depicting the future implications of Curie's work. Thanks to this aesthetic vision the film is saved from completely falling into the cliché of the "biographical film about an inspiring woman". This is also compensated by Rosamund Pike's ('I Care A Lot') truly phenomenal performance, accompanied in the cast by Sam Riley ('Maleficent'), Anya Taylor-Joy ('The Queen's Gambit') and Aneurin Barnard ('Dunkirk').
