Maudie

Why watch this film?

Maud Lewis (Sally Hawkins) is an event. The painter, who suffered from severe arthritis, lived her entire life in poverty, making her art as an escape from the murky everyday. And it is about this beautiful, moving and powerful story that the biopic 'Maudie' focuses on. Here, the viewer is invited to enter the artist's house and life, where it is possible to see more details about her marriage to the grumpy Everett (Ethan Hawke) and understand a little more of her creative process. Although director Aisling Walsh (of the acclaimed 'False Appearances') bets on a linear and not very remarkable structure, the story impresses and moves. Highlight for Hawkins ('The Shape of Water') and Hawke ('Before Sunrise'), who give texture to their characters. They were unfairly snubbed at the Oscars. They deserved recognition.
