A very creative production that brings together short films, made during the coronavirus pandemic, from directors in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, the United States, the United Kingdom and Cyprus. 2020 stopped the world due to Covid-19 and the 13 works of 'The Pandemic Anthology' show that the minds of filmmakers were able to be inspired in the midst of this terrifying scenario. It is no coincidence that the link between the stories is terror. The project is the result of a contest, the idea was to bring together films from different parts of the world about the pandemic. 'The Pandemic Anthology' is so close to reality that it becomes even more frightening.

Plot summary
2020 has its place in history as the year a virus stopped the entire planet. In its first months, amid quarantine and growing uncertainty about the future, Fantaspoa Film Festival launched a contest for filmmakers from around the world to create their pandemic-related stories-in their homes, with the resources they had at hand. This anthology brings together the 13 most representative and creative short films produced, capturing this moment in time that, if humanity is lucky, will never be repeated.

Exterminadores do Além Contra a Loira do Banheiro
Who has never been afraid of the famous "Bathroom Blonde" or other monsters created in the depths of human imagination in their early school years? This is how this mix of comedy and terror begins, led by Danilo Gentili (famous for the talk show 'The Noite' and for movies like 'The Worst Student in School'), which plays with references such as 'Ghostbusters' and 'The Ring'. All this spiced up with jokes, lots of blood and a "trash" humor made to have fun without pretensions, without worrying about potential victims of jokes. Recommended for fans of Gentili's humor or for those who are against political correctness.
Amor Sertanejo
From the beginning of caipira with Tonico and Tinoco, Milionário and José Rico and Inezita Barroso, passing through the successes of Chitãozinho & Xororó, Leonardo and Zezé di Camargo & Luciano and, mainly, until today with the "university students". The sertanejo has evolved over the years and has become a phenomenon. A money-making machine. And it is in this transformation and in this success that the good documentary 'Amor Sertanejo' focuses. In it, director Fabrício Bittar leaves Danilo Gentili's besteirol comedy to put an analytical look on the genre. After all, more than talking about this transformation of regional music to a more pop sound, the film brings a rare critical sense to be seen. There are provocations, reflections and questions. Even though the lack of essential interviewees, such as As Irmãs Galvão, César Menotti & Fabiano and Zezé di Camargo & Luciano, is perceptible, the important thing is there, highlighted in 78 minutes. And the best: it is not a documentary only for sertanejo fans. But for everyone who likes to understand more about music and how the industry has changed in recent years.
Como Hackear Seu Chefe
Remotely filmed movies, using the artifice of turning the cinema screen into a computer screen, have gained strength with horror and suspense productions -- such as the excellent 'Amizade Desfeita', 'Buscando' and 'Host. Now, finally, the first experiments outside this genre are emerging with titles like 'A Garota Invisível' and 'Como Hackear Seu Chefe'. In the latter case, filmmaker Fabrício Bittar ('Como se Tornar o Pior Aluno da Escola') plays with comedy while telling the story of a boy (Victor Lamoglia) who must reverse the mistake of sending a compromising email to his boss. Skirting the limitations of social distancing well, the feature film knows how to make humor while also presenting original narrative experiments. That is: you can have fun while also being surprised by the story. Good national surprise of the year.
Alice no Mundo da Internet
Starring Lorena Queiroz, a success as the protagonist of the novela 'Carinha de Anjo' from SBT, and with a cast that includes João Guilherme ('Tudo Por Um Pop Star'), Cassio Scapin ('Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum') and Pietra Quintela ('As Aventuras de Poliana'), the movie is a remake of the classic 'Alice in Wonderland'. This time, the universe is digital and includes funny takes such as a cat meme, forgotten folders and the computer's trash bin to build the adventure. The story is full of music and brings important lessons that should please the whole family.

The Nightman
The Nightman a dramatic thriller that explores the dangerous boundary between love and darkness. The story follows a young pregnant woman who begins to question the perfection of her boyfriend upon discovering his possible involvement in mysterious disappearances and murders, linked to his sleepwalking behavior. With praised performances and precise direction, the film delves into complex themes of relationships and personal dilemmas, keeping the audience engaged in its dark suspense.
Abigail
Abigail demonstrates why we should keep an eye on the director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, especially when they have original material at their disposal (they also directed Scream 5 and 6, with mixed results). Abigail is a film that manages to balance the terror and tragedy of its characters with the absurdity of its premise, thanks to a clever script that plays with the conventions of vampire literature, careful direction, and a phenomenal cast (led by Mexican actress Melissa Barrera and Dan Stevens) that fully utilizes their roles. The plot follows a group of kidnappers tasked with a delicate job: to kidnap a millionaire's daughter for ransom. However, it all turns out to be a trap: beneath the guise of a 12-year-old girl, the victim is actually an ancient vampire who likes to play with her food. Like Ready or Not in its time, this film is self-aware, pushing its story and violence to the most absurd and fun limits without falling into self-parody. It won’t change the history of horror cinema, but it’s an excellent (and even stylish for a film of its genre, I dare say) choice for a fun time at the movies with friends.
28 Days Later
