Why watch this film?
The sequel to the classic 1980s movie takes CGI to the next level, creating a totally believable cyber reality and rejuvenating Jeff Bridges through computer graphics. The sound editing is also an attraction, even earning an Academy Award nomination. However, the story itself has its flaws with a weak script and lack of substance, making "Tron: Legacy" just a fun virtual ride - albeit with the backing of Daft Punk.

Spiderhead
From the same director of 'Top Gun: Maverick', Joseph Kosinski, this movie is quite different from the Tom Cruise-led blockbuster. 'Spiderhead' is based on the short story 'Escape From Spiderhead', by George Saunders and originally published in The New Yorker, and features an experiment involving intoxicants and the prison system. Its central concept isn't too far from our reality when we stop to think about how many chemicals we ingest daily - and we're not talking about drugs. This production navigates between science fiction, thriller, and dark comedy genres, managing to be perversely funny. Shot during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, 'Spiderhead' has few actors: the cast is composed of Miles Teller, Chris Hemsworth, Jurnee Smollett and Charles Parnell, relying more on dialogue than action, but it is well-filmed and much smarter than it appears. It's also a great opportunity to see Hemsworth expanding his acting potential beyond action heroes.
Top Gun: Maverick
"Top Gun: Maverick" is a representation of a Hollywood era, in which producers like Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson perfected the blockbuster formula and explored the feeling of victory that Americans had in relation to the (soon to be ended) Cold War. The film, with its personification of love between men - not necessarily in a physical sense - marked a generation, which reunites with Tom Cruise in this eagerly awaited sequel. Director Joseph Kosinski ("Tron: Legacy") manages to remarkably revive the work of the late filmmaker Tony Scott, bringing much of the original's aesthetics and atmosphere, but adapting the language for a new phase of commercial cinema. The result is a dynamic film, with sensational aerial battle scenes (largely done with the actors themselves in jets, without doubles) and a rounded script, which evolves and expands the story of the original characters, while introducing others. In addition, it adds elements from other current franchises, such as "Fast & Furious" and "Mission: Impossible", as well as adding a "Star Wars" quest. The result is a production that manages to make everyone happy: fans of the past will love the nostalgia, while those who didn't like the "Top Gun" fever can find a fun movie that pleases and works very well alone. Perfect formula for success, in addition to showing that the almost sixty-year-old Tom Cruise is still a star in full form for any mission in action movies - whether they are impossible or in the measure for indomitable aces.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
The MonsterVerse has successfully brought to the screen the battles of the two most iconic giant monsters in cinema, King Kong and Godzilla, the latter in its American reinterpretation. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is a new chapter in the franchise, although, truth be told, it doesn't bring much new. The duo are now allies in a fight for the fate not only of the Earth's surface but also of the world of the "hollow earth," where the titans come from. Don't expect here the deep anti-war allegory of Godzilla Minus One, the far superior Japanese film released just a few months prior. Here it's about seeing giant monsters smack each other in the face, like an hour of wrestlers aboard monster trucks. If that's what you're looking for, it's the movie for you. If you prefer some more humanity in your films, it's better to pass.
Code 8: Part II
Code 8 was an unexpectedly successful film, putting Robbie (from the series Upload) and Stephen Amell (Arrow) back on the map and captivating audiences with a compelling science fiction story. Now, the saga returns with an intense plot: after witnessing her brother's murder and the subsequent cover-up, a teenage girl with abnormal abilities seeks the help of an ex-convict (Robbie Amell) and his former crime partner (Stephen Amell). Together, they confront a unit of corrupt police officers who use advanced robotic technology to avoid being exposed. A clever and entertaining sequel.
