Plot summary
As the German Enlightenment flourishes, the vibrant Caroline von Beulwitz finds herself in an unhappy marriage to provide for her mother and shy younger sister Charlotte von Lengefeld. He falls in love with an actress and, as her career begins to take off, the protagonist is increasingly overwhelmed by his insecurities and repressed morality. The aesthetic model of the film is loaded with irony and visual sarcasm, subverting the roots of a genre historically based on formality, and inserting into it a personality that reflects the character in a cohesive way. A great work of contemporary German cinema, and an excellent historical and social portrait.

However, when he finally gathers the courage to confess, she falls for Billie Walsh, a handsome and athletic exchange student. The story is predictable and, except for a Netflix Sex Education-like layer of paint, there's not much new. However, it's a good contender for a Gen Z classic.
