Why watch this film?

With a brilliant performance by Al Pacino, 'Dog Day Afternoon' is remembered as an anti-system movie amid the American disillusionment with the Vietnam War. Above all, it deals with gender identity issues, so it can also be considered a classic queer film. The movie is inspired by the real-life story of John Wojtowicz, adapted from a famous LIFE magazine article, "The Boys in the Bank".
