Why watch this film?
Perfect movie for fans of black humor. 'Thoroughbreds' manages to be hilarious from disturbing situations, mainly due to the performances of Olivia Cooke ('Ready Player One') and Anya Taylor-Joy ('Split'), two of the most talented young actresses of current American cinema. The film is also one of the last works of Anton Yelchin ('Star Trek'), who left us too soon in 2016, at 27 years old.

After playing a presidential candidate with his private life revealed by the media in 'The Favourite', Hugh Jackman returns to play a man in the middle of a hurricane in 'Bad Education'. This time, however, it is not extramarital affairs that haunt him, but rather a corruption scheme in an American school. With Cory Finley's firm and "down-to-earth" direction (from the interesting 'Thoroughbreds') and Mike Makowsky's intelligent script (from 'Take Me'), the feature film is clever in not delivering everything at once to the audience. Revelations about the real case, which shook the American district of Long Island, are slowly made, almost cruelly. After all, the audience embarks on a direction and the film, mercilessly, soon changes the meaning of that story, always keeping faith with the almost documentary atmosphere. Characters are deconstructed, plots are broken. And the movie surprises with real-life stories, without ever betting on miraculous twists or things like that. It is a strong, powerful drama, worthy of awards in the season. Also noteworthy is the performance of Allison Janney, Oscar-winning for her character in 'I, Tonya', who here plays Hugh Jackman's right arm. Great movie.
