Why watch this film?
Directed and starred in by one of Japan's most famous comedians, Hitoshi Matsumoto, this is a singular parody of the "tokusatsu" genre--productions like 'Ultraman' or 'Changeman'--which, with its false documentary style, explores the pains of maintaining traditions in a changing society. 'Big Man Japan' was nominated for Best Film at the Sitges Festival and, curiously, was selected at the Cannes Festival.

Plot summary
An outrageous portrait of a pathetic but truly unique hero: Daisato, who is entrusted with defending Japan from a host of bizarre monsters by transforming into a stocky, stick-wielding giant several stories high. But while his predecessors were national heroes, he is an outcast among the citizens he protects.
