Gintama

A samurai handyman protects his city from alien invasion.

Trailer

Why watch this film?

'Gintama' is one of the most popular manga in Japan, selling around 55 million copies, spawning a successful anime show on TV and now, this live-action adaptation with flesh-and-blood actors. The premise is quite fun: messing with genre story cliches and stereotypes, making humor out of the protagonist - a powerful samurai with a childish behavior who prefers to avoid combat. Set in the end of the so-called Edo Period (more precisely in the 1860s), the story adds elements of science fiction (including aliens and their technology). With lots of action scenes and jokes, it's an unpretentious feature, made to amuse anime fans in general, samurai fans or Japanese culture fans.
