Why watch this film?
The second installment of the 'God's Not Dead' trilogy, which in some ways expands on the original movie. This time, the protagonist is Melissa Joan Hart (who you may know from series like 'Clarissa Explains It All' and the original 'Sabrina'), a Christian teacher who ends up defending the existence of Jesus in the classroom, sparking a debate about the use of religion in the classroom - even going to court. While the film is heavily coated with religious persecution, the theme itself is extremely relevant and current in Brazil today, in which indoctrination and political-religious representation in the classroom are discussed.

God's Not Dead
The first part of the Christian trilogy that was a success in cinemas. In the story, Kevin Sorbo (the eternal Hercules from the TV series) plays an atheist university professor who argues that God is dead - until he meets a student who believes in the existence of God and is willing to prove he's right. From then on, the movie presents stories of faith that intertwine, proving the student's point. The cast also features a familiar face to the public: Dean Cain, who was Superman in the 1990s series. With all this, the movie brings a message that appeals to the viewer more aligned with Christian themes, but may sound forced for those who refute the themes pointed out by the production.

In Kidnapped (Rapito), Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio delves into one of the murkiest and most controversial episodes in the history of the Catholic Church, the "Mortara case". In 1851, when Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara becomes gravely ill, his Catholic nanny decides to baptize him in an emergency. However, papal law dictates that all Catholics must be raised as such, so the cardinal orders the boy to be taken and handed over to the church, against his parents' wishes, who decide to fight for him. The film recounts a controversial case that captured the attention of the rest of Europe and America, and skillfully portrays the clash of interests between the waning power of the church, Mortara's parents, and public opinion, with irreversible consequences for all involved.
