At Eternity's Gate

A painter struggles with his passions and quirks while living in France.

Trailer

Why watch this film?

One more biography of Vincent Van Gogh, focusing on the last moments of the artist's life. The difference here is that director Julian Schnabel (‘The Diving Bell and the Butterfly’) tries to make the viewer enter the same wavelength as the painter's mind, with scenes and dialogues that repeat like echoes from a mind that gets lost in reality. More than blaming him for his shortcomings, the feature film tries to make us understand why he sees the world that way, in addition to his passions and quirks. Highlight for the excellent art direction and photography, rescuing France seen through Van Gogh's eyes. The highlight, of course, is the performance of Willem Dafoe in the lead role, which earned him an Oscar nomination. ‘At Eternity's Gate’ is not a movie for everyone, but certainly pleases Van Gogh fans and art appreciators in general.
