Why watch this film?
Ralph Fiennes' third feature film is already fascinating just for its subject matter: Rudolf Nureyev was one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, with importance in both dance and politics - a Soviet, the dancer defected to the West in 1961. As a biopic, 'The White Crow' isn't as graceful as its protagonist, and its pacing can be a challenge to patience. However, a solid result and a first-rate cast featuring Fiennes himself, Adèle Exarchopoulos ('Blue is the Warmest Color') and newcomer Oleg Ivenko make it worth the watch.
