Why watch this film?
"Man is good, but society corrupts him," said Rousseau. "Man is the wolf of man," quoted Hobbes. And the sum of these two theories goes by the name of 'Joker'. Forget here the typical superhero movie. There is no wild action, nor heroes in the feature film directed by Todd Phillips ('The Hangover'). What exists is a dirty, misogynistic and prejudiced Gotham City, in which the least favored citizens fight to live and rebel against the richest - in some way, based on the real New York of the late 1970s and early 1980s. It is not surprising that 'Taxi Driver' (along with 'The King of Comedy') is one of the greatest references of the movie: it is also a creation of the system and cinema of that era. In this context, we have an almost pure character study, in an impeccable performance by Joaquin Phoenix ('Her'). However, it is not about glamorizing the villain or making the audience sympathize with the murderer. There are criticisms of people (including the misfits), society and its lack of concern for the welfare of all. For all this, the story is hard, shocking, shocking, forming an almost perfect combination of art cinema with a blockbuster based on comics - no wonder, it won the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. Other awards followed, including an Oscar for Phoenix, but along with it is important to have reflection: what can we do to make all this sound less like reality and more like inhospitable fiction? After all, if man is the wolf of man, the wolf of the wolf is called Joker.

A comedy doesn't necessarily need to be a way to forget your daily problems. 'War Dogs' manages to turn the Iraq War and tumultuous Iraqi relations with the US government into genuine and interesting fun. Jonah Hill doesn't resort to exaggeration and still entertains, even with the difficult underlying theme.
The Hangover
Who hasn't gone through an intense hangover where not only do you not remember what happened, but you hope you didn't do anything truly embarrassing or catastrophic? The plot of 'The Hangover' takes that fear to its most extreme, outlandish and, in some cases, absolutely ridiculous consequences. It has to be said, its humor can get a bit crude and childish at times, but it manages to be funny due to the sheer proportion of the catastrophe its characters go through. Its unexpected success at the box office and during award season - it won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy or Musical Movie in 2010 - is largely due to its unusual mix of protagonists, led by Bradley Cooper ('Wedding Crashers') as the confident leading man, with Zach Galifianakis ('Into the Wild') and Ed Helms ('The Office') as their peculiar foils (not to mention the prominent Mike Tyson cameo). This is one of the most successful and memorable adult comedies of the 21st century, which gave rise to a trilogy.
The Hangover Part III
To be honest, 'The Hangover Part III' is the kind of movie that was born from a funny idea that should have stayed in one edition. The sequel stretched the idea to its limits to enter darker and more obscene territories, but the third definitely broke it. 'The Hangover Part III' unfolds more like a thriller with a very heavy humor - and not always particularly funny - that reunites the original quartet in a new adventure that takes them back to Las Vegas, to save the life of one of them, who has been kidnapped by a mobster. The already crazy situations in the original movie are taken to the extreme here. Those looking for a simpler comedy would do well to stay away from this movie (or start with the first). However, fans of the saga led by Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis will love this conclusion.
Due Date
Before becoming world-renowned for 'Joker', filmmaker Todd Phillips directed a series of comedies. Among others, 'The Hangover', 'Old School' and, one of the most entertaining, 'Due Date'. Starring Robert Downey Jr. ('Avengers: Endgame') and Zach Galifianakis (also from 'The Hangover'), the feature film follows the journey of a first-time father (Downey Jr.) who is forced to hitch a ride with an aspiring actor (Galifianakis). From there, mixing elements of bestial comedy with road movie, 'Due Date' shows the relationship between these two evolving and taking unexpected turns. It's hard not to laugh at the scene of the rollover, or at one of the phrases that has become popular: "Dad, you were like a dad to me". A silly movie, but with genuine humor. To laugh, entertain and pass the time.

Kidnapped
In Kidnapped (Rapito), Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio delves into one of the murkiest and most controversial episodes in the history of the Catholic Church, the "Mortara case". In 1851, when Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara becomes gravely ill, his Catholic nanny decides to baptize him in an emergency. However, papal law dictates that all Catholics must be raised as such, so the cardinal orders the boy to be taken and handed over to the church, against his parents' wishes, who decide to fight for him. The film recounts a controversial case that captured the attention of the rest of Europe and America, and skillfully portrays the clash of interests between the waning power of the church, Mortara's parents, and public opinion, with irreversible consequences for all involved.
Green Border
'Green Border' - In the treacherous and swampy forests that make up the so called “green border” between Belarus and Poland, refugees from the Middle East and Africa trying to reach the European Union are trapped in a geopolitical crisis cynically engineered by Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko. In an attempt to provoke Europe, refugees are lured to the border by propaganda promising easy passage to the EU. Pawns in this hidden war, the lives of Julia, a newly minted activist who has given up her comfortable life, Jan, a young border guard, and a Syrian family intertwine.
