Why watch this film?
Sometimes a horror movie is better when it's not taken too seriously, as is the case with 'Ready or Not'. The premise is clear (and a bit bloody): lots of sharp comedy - and the result is satisfying. Samara Weaving's performance as Grace is remarkable, and in this simple dynamic of prey to hunter, the actress manages to appropriate her character and make it authentic. The movie offers suspense, laughs and blood, but also sustains a social comment on the more privileged classes and their abyssal distance from the reality of the rest of the population.

Scream
Whoever follows slasher films knows that they have become increasingly generic. When 'Scream' came out in 1996, directed by Wes Craven, we followed the creation of something so memorable that it gave a new face to the genre. However, after three sequels, the franchise lost its strength. But for those who were frustrated with the previous movie, released in 2011, this chapter is encouraging. The new 'Scream' is described as a reboot sequel by the characters of the movie itself: the metalinguistic was well built in the story, which manages to give freshness to a narrative that had become a commonplace with the excess of productions that explore such premise. Not only that, the movie also rescues the affective bond with the old fans of the franchise - with the return of the classic trio Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox. Another success is that the script manages to be intelligent, however obvious it may seem. Wes Craven would be proud of this possible ending - which, it is worth mentioning, he had directed all the previous movies of the franchise. The movie also pays homage to the director, who died in 2015.
Scream VI
When 'Scream V' came to theaters, many people raised their eyebrows - they believed the legacy of Wes Craven with the franchise would be left in the original footage and there wouldn't be any good ideas to take advantage of. However, that wasn't the case: the movie got a good box office turnout and also pleased most of the specialized critics. Now, 'Scream VI' comes with this need to be "more": more violent, more intense, more exciting. More of everything. And it is precisely on this need, in addition to all the idiosincrasies of a "requel", which the film is based on. Obviously the previous one is more creative, fresh and original, but this sixth chapter still manages to entertain. The difference lies in the Scream style, which not only is in an unrecognizable New York (the weak point of the movie), but is also more violent. It uses weapons at one moment, gives violent blows with a machete. All this to tell, once again, the story of Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega), who try to survive after the first attacks suffered in the small Woodsboro. And in the end, it's exactly what the audience wants: more, more and more. It may sound exaggerated, but that's the essence and soul of Scream, which works so well since the 90s. And between us, I'm already ready for 'Scream VII'.
Abigail
Abigail demonstrates why we should keep an eye on the director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, especially when they have original material at their disposal (they also directed Scream 5 and 6, with mixed results). Abigail is a film that manages to balance the terror and tragedy of its characters with the absurdity of its premise, thanks to a clever script that plays with the conventions of vampire literature, careful direction, and a phenomenal cast (led by Mexican actress Melissa Barrera and Dan Stevens) that fully utilizes their roles. The plot follows a group of kidnappers tasked with a delicate job: to kidnap a millionaire's daughter for ransom. However, it all turns out to be a trap: beneath the guise of a 12-year-old girl, the victim is actually an ancient vampire who likes to play with her food. Like Ready or Not in its time, this film is self-aware, pushing its story and violence to the most absurd and fun limits without falling into self-parody. It won’t change the history of horror cinema, but it’s an excellent (and even stylish for a film of its genre, I dare say) choice for a fun time at the movies with friends.

From director Gibrán Bazán, pupil of legendary cult filmmaker Juan López Moctezuma (Alucarda), NUDUS is a science fiction thriller that, with few resources, aspires to create the worst conceivable dystopia of our digital age: a world in which everyone's data is accessible to everyone, and for any purpose, after a major global hack. The plot follows a woman (Carla Hernández) who, upon waking up from a prolonged coma, is confronted by a stranger (Álex Crusa) who seems to know everything about her: everything she has written on WhatsApp and Facebook, all the videos she has sent to her contacts, all the humiliating information she has said in private. From this moment on, NUDUS seems more concerned with the mystery of its characters than with the greater background of their situation, so it becomes more about the exploitation of its female protagonist than a reflection on technology and data privacy. However, despite the plot going off the rails, the situation lends itself to exemplifying a catastrophic scenario of these breaches in privacy.
