Why watch this film?

There are many movies about real-life athletes, telling their journey to becoming idols, but few delve into the dark corners of these adversities. With 'Brian Banks', director Tom Shadyac ('Patch Adams') tells the tragic true story of the eponymous athlete, whose promising college football career was cut short by a false rape accusation, costing him five years in prison, five more on probation, and the stigma of being labeled a sexual offender. The film not only portrays Banks' difficult personal struggle - with a solid performance from Aldis Hodge ('Hidden Figures') - but also exposes the US justice system with its flaws and injustices, often of a racial nature.
