Why watch this film?

This movie is based on the 1974 book 'Alive! The Tragedy of the Andes', which collects the testimonies of those who survived the 1972 Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 accident. 'Alive!' has spectacular landscape photography and recreates the fateful accident with very convincing special effects for its time, so even if it portrays its characters a bit superficially, it has enough talent in front of the camera (in particular from the protagonist, Ethan Hawke) to be touching.
