The Money Stone

Two boys chase their dreams in Ghana's gold mines.

Why watch this film?

It is well known that several countries in the African continent suffer from some form of exploitation for their natural resources: many will remember 'Blood Diamond', located in Sierra Leone, as one of the most famous productions about it in fiction cinema. 'The Money Stone' takes the opposite path: it is a modest documentary (collectively funded through the Kickstarter platform), made over eight years, and which closely follows the stories of two young people immersed in the world of "galamsey", illegal gold mining in Ghana. Director Stuart Harmon also addresses the social consequences of this exploitation, but also the efforts of non-governmental organizations to prevent it, among other things, due to its catastrophic environmental consequences.
