Why watch this film?

In simple terms, 'The Master: Every Man Needs a Guide' is one of the great Paul Thomas Anderson's best (which says a lot from someone who already has 'Magnolia', 'Boogie Nights: Pleasure Games' and 'Blood Oil' in his filmography). With phenomenal performances from a stellar cast led by Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams, it's a movie with enough depth to allow for multiple readings, from an existential portrait of post-war United States, to a parody of the birth of Scientology, or even a fable about the essential need to make sense of our own existence. It's dense, but without a doubt one of the greatest movies of our century.
