Why watch this film?

Winner of the Golden Lion for Best Film at the 2019 Berlin Film Festival, 'Synonyms' is highly praised by critics - though not for everyone. The screenplay and direction are by Nadav Lapid, the same as 'The Kindergarten Teacher', while the production is from a team that includes those responsible for 'Toni Erdmann', 'A Fantastic Woman', 'Elle' and even the Brazilian 'Bacurau'. The story is about an Israeli who goes to France in search of a new identity, denying the country he came from, which is in itself a rather audacious plot. Mixing comedy and drama, the feature makes us think about ourselves while trying to leave us disoriented. It has a chance of not working for you, but if it does, it will be one of those cathartic films.
