Giacomo Casanova is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating figures of the 18th century, entering into history as the most famous seducer that ever existed. It is no wonder that the Venetian has already been the subject of several films (how to forget 'Fellini's Casanova' or 'Casanova' with Heath Ledger). Here, the character is played by Vincent Lindon ('The Value of a Man'), slightly based on the time when Casanova fled to England from Paris, when he was older and depressed. Stacy Martin ('The Formidable') plays a woman who manages to do what few could: be the only one in Casanova's heart. For all these reasons, it is not exactly the Giacomo Casanova you are used to, but it is still interesting to see the figure in a different moment of life. The direction is by Benoît Jacquot ('Farewell, My Queen'), who leads an impeccable period reconstruction. 'Dernier amour' (The Last Love of Casanova) is the title.

Plot summary
In the eighteenth century, Casanova, known for his taste for fun and play, arrived in London after having to go into exile. In this city of which he knows nothing, he meets several times a young courtesan, the Charpillon, which attracts him to the point of forgetting the other women. Casanova is ready to do anything to achieve her ends, but La Charpillon always escapes under the most diverse pretexts. She challenges him, she wants him to love her as much as he wants.

Suzanna Andler (Charlotte Gainsbourg) is a woman trapped in her terrible marriage who must choose between continuing her life as a wife and mother or her freedom. Set in the 1960s, the film focuses on the weight of our choices and how it increases when you are not a man, who can easily leave his wife, children, and whatever else he pleases. The production is a cinematic adaptation of Marguerite Duras' homonymous play, scripted and directed by Benoît Jacquot ('Farewell, My Queen'). If you want something more dynamic, it is important to note that 'Suzanna Andler' has many and long dialogues. If you can get past that, you will find beautiful cinematography and great performances, with Gainsbourg standing out for her portrayal of her character's existential crises.

Kidnapped
In Kidnapped (Rapito), Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio delves into one of the murkiest and most controversial episodes in the history of the Catholic Church, the "Mortara case". In 1851, when Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara becomes gravely ill, his Catholic nanny decides to baptize him in an emergency. However, papal law dictates that all Catholics must be raised as such, so the cardinal orders the boy to be taken and handed over to the church, against his parents' wishes, who decide to fight for him. The film recounts a controversial case that captured the attention of the rest of Europe and America, and skillfully portrays the clash of interests between the waning power of the church, Mortara's parents, and public opinion, with irreversible consequences for all involved.
