Why watch this film?
If you've ever wondered why conceptual art and modern art are what they are and what sense they make, this documentary is an excellent starting point to begin understanding them. More than just a biographical documentary, 'Marcel Duchamp: Art of the Possible' explores its protagonist's philosophical approach to 20th century art, his associations with Cubism, Dadaism, and Conceptual Art vanguard movements, and contributions that marked a before and after in visual arts (like his invention of "readymades"). Some testimonies from historians can be a bit tedious, but highly informative. However, the documentary is also highly fascinating when characters like performance artist Marina Abramović, filmmaker Michel Gondry (director of 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' and 'Amor Índigo') and even musician David Bowie appear to talk about Duchamp's influence on their own works, which reaffirms his position as a key figure in our cultural history.

Plot summary
The film explores the life, philosophy and impact of one of the most influential early 20th century modernists, Marcel Duchamp. The film breaks down Duchamp's ideas and applies them to both historical events and the modernist explosion that blanketed the early 20th century. Art of the Possible isn't simply a biopic; rather, the film shows how Duchamp's ideas changed the public consciousness, and our understanding of aesthetics, art, and culture. The film highlights the singular impact of Duchamp's philosophy on art, and, more importantly, examines how Duchamp's revolutionary ideas from the early 20th century have shaped the 21st century and modern day.
