Why watch this film?

Selected at the Berlin and Zurich Film Festivals, 'Polyamory' is the debut of German filmmaker Tamer Jandali, who from experimental docufiction provides a fascinating exploration of new ways of living romantic and sexual relationships in the 21st century, from questions about monogamy to the heteronormativity that continues to govern romantic expectations in many parts of the world. In a similar vein to Jean Rouch's ethnographic cinema (which allowed his subjects to interpret fictional versions of themselves before the camera), this film follows seven men and women aged between twenty and forty over four months, who construct an intimate, honest and explicit story based on their experiences.

Plot summary

easy love is the experimental fiction debut of Tamer Jandali. His way of working shifted between documentary and fiction when he followed seven men and women from Cologne on their search for a balance between emotional security and sensual fulfillment. In four months of shooting those protagonists acted as braver versions of themselves. The camera opened the possibility to pursue their unlived dreams, fears and fantasies and ultimately experiencing them in reality. By shooting in a small team, always on the edge between documentary and fiction, Tamer Jandali created space for intimacy and a new form of cinematic authenticity.
