The struggle in South Africa and Southwest Africa (now Namibia) against the authoritarian segregation of apartheid, which dictated the organization of society under white supremacy, is one of the most crucial episodes in human history of the 20th century, and whose impact can still be felt today. On this side of the Pacific, the best-known figure of the struggle is undoubtedly Nelson Mandela, so it is important to have a film like 'Fuego contra fuego: La historia de Solomon Mahlangu', which presents us with another of its greatest icons and martyrs. The film develops as a legal drama that raises great philosophical and moral arguments. If you are familiar with the martyrdom of Mahlangu, you will already know where the story ends, but this does not make it any less impactful and necessary.

'Silverton Siege' is a South African movie set in the 1980s, when Nelson Mandela was fighting for the end of the racist apartheid system that put him in prison. The feature film, inspired by real events, follows the story of three young freedom fighters fleeing from the police - after an anti-apartheid attack went wrong - who hide in a bank taking the customers hostage. They demanded Mandela's release in exchange for the 25 people held captive. It is an action production with a solid background, but it ends up falling into certain Hollywood clichés, such as having a "good" and a "bad" policeman. In this scenario, there is a whole discussion about the idealism of the kidnappers and also the fascism present in the police. In short, it is a production that deserves attention.
