Song of Names

An Englishman searches Europe for his childhood friend, a vanished violin prodigy.

Why watch this film?

After the excellent 'The Choir', starring Dustin Hoffman, director François Girard is back to explore the intertwining of music and children. Now, in the midst of World War II, the filmmaker uses the sound of the violin to tell the story of two boys, treated as brothers, who find themselves on opposite and distinct paths. Despite being too slow and a bit overly melodramatic, the story is moving, exciting and enchanting. After all, Girard knows how to insert musical elements into dramas like this, which go beyond the obvious. Special mention also goes to the star-studded cast, with emotional performances from Clive Owen and Tim Roth. Get your tissues ready! It's a sensitive movie, made to cry.
