Why watch this film?

If you've seen photos of someone who took a vacation in Thailand (or another Southeast Asian country), you're sure to find records of elephants used as tourist attractions. This action and others like it, although seemingly harmless, are the result of a long chain of animal abuse that has been perpetuated for generations. Directed by activist and actress Ashley Bell (whom we saw in films such as 'The Last Exorcism'), 'Love & Bananas' is a documentary that, although only scratching the surface of a huge problem, is an excellent starting point for discussion. And Bell's enthusiasm will not only make you want to join the cause, but the feature also highlights the enormous sacrifice and passion of Lek Chailert, who despite the dangers, dedicated her life to the conservation of Asian elephants.
