American History X

A reformed neo-nazi tries to steer his brother away from his former path.

Why watch this film?

One of the biggest injustices in Oscar history, Edward Norton ('Fight Club') is absolutely impeccable in 'American History X'. Not only for his well-defined performance, but also for the difficulty of his role. In the plot, we follow the story of neo-Nazi Derek Vinyard (Norton), a man marked by violence and intolerance who finally goes to prison after killing two young black men who tried to steal his car. After his release, however, Derek promises to change his way of life and hopes to prevent his younger brother from following in his footsteps while fighting his prejudices. It is difficult not to be impacted by some of the scenes and, mainly, by the transformation of the characters. It is a raw, honest and powerful film, which makes its meaning, unfortunately, cross decades and remain current.
