Why watch this film?

After the success of 'Gone Girl', so-called domestic thrillers gained strength in the audiovisual realm, transferring the literary success. Adaptations like 'The Girl on the Train' and 'The Woman in the Window' put the pains of ordinary people in perspective under the police's point of view. Now, a series of smaller productions is trying to get on board this success. This is the case of 'The Sweetheart', a Canadian police drama directed by Max McGuire (from the funny 'Rock and Roll Christmas') and that follows the investigation and concern of a woman with her mother's new boyfriend. Even though anchored in a dozen narrative facilitations and clichés, the film should please those who seek a new "domestic" story with emotion, twists and turns and a good suspense. It is not flawless, as the aforementioned David Fincher movie. But it should please an audience thirsty to embark on the emotion of these investigations and horrors of everyday and banal life.
