Why watch this film?
Although it may be more easily categorized as drama, Chinese director Lisa Zi Xiang's debut feature is a film laden, in perfect doses, with satire about dualities: tradition versus progress, east versus west. All found at the core of a Chinese family. "A Dog Barking at the Moon" is a bold portrait of contemporary society in China, where there are constant tensions between its deeply rooted nationalism and traditionalism. The film received the Teddy, the award for best film at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival within the LGBT themed selection.
