Why watch this film?
Within the parameters of action thrillers, 'Taken' is as conventional as it is well-executed, whose flashes of originality reside in its premise: putting a veteran actor in a brutal impossible mission, two years before Sylvester Stallone and company did the same in 'Les Misérables'. Liam Neeson was familiar with this type of movie (he had previously starred in 'Batman Begins' and 'Star Wars: The Phantom Menace'), but 'Taken' was a turning point in his career for such films, establishing himself as a convincing action star who is also responsible for one of the most iconic and intense monologues in the genre's history.

A female version of the Marvel character The Punisher - which becomes even clearer with the Brazilian title. A woman has her family murdered by the mafia and, seeing that justice failed the victims, she sets out in search of revenge. The difference here is that the protagonist, played by Jennifer Garner ('Elektra'), is an ordinary woman who, after the tragedy, trains to become a lethal machine (which, by the way, brings similarities to another hero: Batman). Direction is by Pierre Morel (of 'Taken'), which guarantees good action sequences. Unfortunately, the feature film lacks a more elaborated script, going beyond the already cited inspirations.
Freelance
A hilarious action comedy in which a desk-bound agent (John Cena) accepts a job as the bodyguard of a failed journalist (Alison Brie), who is about to embark on the interview of her life with a Latin American dictator (Juan Pablo Raba). However, when a coup d'état is declared, the trio must flee to the jungle, where they must learn to coexist and survive. Freelance won't change the course of action comedies, but it makes the most of Cena and Brie's considerable comedic chops.

With Blue Dragon Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress (Seo Eun-su) and Best New Actress (Cynthia), this film captures the protagonist's intense battle to find answers and justice, facing not only her persecutors, but also to his own inner demons.
Bloodsport
Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his starring debut in the descriptively titled Bloodsport. An American soldier at large in Hong Kong, Van Damme becomes involved in the Kumite, a highly illegal kickboxing competition. Whoever survives the bout will be crowned Kumite champion of the world…a title that has plenty of challengers with homicide in their hearts. The finale offers a duel to the death between Van Damme and reigning Kumite king Bolo Yeung. The script is based on the real-life exploits of martial arts champ Frank Dux, who serves as the film's fight coordinator.

The Order
In The Order, Van Damme plays a man accused of murder who seeks a sacred scripture in Jerusalem before it falls into the wrong hands, jeopardizing his freedom. With shades of Dan Brown and a script by Jean Claude Van Damme himself, alongside Les Weldon (screenwriter of another action star film, Replicant), the movie is what every fan of the Belgian actor wants: brawling, with a fun plot, and never boring.
