The Road

A father and son journey to the sea in a post-apocalyptic world.

Why watch this film?

Based on Cormac McCarthy's (author of 'No Country for Old Men', adapted to film as 'Sin lugar para los débiles') post-apocalyptic novel, 'La carretera' is one of the toughest 21st century survival dramas. It is a raw story that, in the absence of civil, legal, moral and even spiritual order, poses the essence of good and bad in humanity, as well as the purpose of its existence. It is a desolate movie, which is only accentuated by Javier Aguirresarobe's ('Los otros') excellent cinematography. Nevertheless, the great performances of young Kodi Smit-McPhee and especially Viggo Mortensen ('A History of Violence', 'The Lord of the Rings') manage to convey humanity and a glimmer of hope, even in the face of the worst adversity.
